A New Year tradition I hold on to is Neujahrskonzert der Wiener Philharmoniker, aka Vienna’s Philarmonic orchestra New Year’s Concert. Two pieces are never missing: Strauss‘ Radetzky March and the Blue Danube. I prefer the latter. For a long time, I took ballet classes, even joined a semi-professional company in my dance school. And on my last year at that school, we performed this waltz. It was one of the most demanding classical choreographies we ever danced and -of course-one of the most beautiful.
This is the performance of that piece in the New Year’s concert from a few years back, conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
